Flames and heavy smoke at Excelsior Cleaners in Larchmont on Wednesday has closed a shopping center due to a lack of power and gas service and damage incurred during the fire.
The Town of Mamaroneck Administrator Stephen Altieri said the Stop & Shop, CVS pharmacy, and other smaller shops are closed, he did not have a timeline for when the shops will reopen.
"The Stop & Shop is working with the State Department of Argulicture to inspect all of the food for safety," he said. In addition, building inspectors are working to check safety and repair crews are working on other damage including flooding in the basement of the CVS.
The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department responded to the fire around 3 p.m., Wednesday at the center located at 1320 Boston Post Road. When units arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from one of the buildings.
A second alarm was transmitted, bringing more than 40 firefighters from other departments. The fire was extinguished within about 40 minutes.
